The National Research Funding agency of Singapore first introduced its vision for the AI4Science initiative: a competitive Singapore research landscape with the best possible resources and access to quality data, AI expertise, domain knowledge.
AI4Science seeks to apply AI technology to solve scientific problems and advance research, bridging the gap between AI development and scientific discovery, and accelerating the latter. It was highlighted that Singapore aims to leverage this initiative to foster collaborations, enhance its scientific leadership, and benefit its community.
The second part of the workshop delved into four themes within AI4Science: AI for biomedical sciences, AI methods for scientific discovery, AI for fintech and AI for material science. A common challenge across the different theme is the access to quality, trustworthy and a legally acceptable data. A second challenge, crucial to extend the use of AI within scientific fields is the need for model benchmarking and explainability. More in-depth workshops will be organized between March and June.
